Organisational Development, Strategy and Merger

In an ever-changing world, experienced and independent support can help your charity adapt, improve, and thrive. As external circumstances shift, every organisation can benefit from strategic guidance — to navigate challenges, seize new opportunities, and make informed decisions for the future.

“I found Pete to be knowledgeable, experienced, and very good at working with the charity on numerous levels. He had a very calming authoritative influence - which I found most helpful.”  Paula Blight, CEO, SWEDA

  • Vision, Mission and Values - whether you're reviewing what's already in place or starting from scratch, developing clear Vision, Mission, and Values statements is a powerful way to unite your team. The process builds shared understanding and direction, while the final, succinct statements help galvanise staff and stakeholders around your purpose — providing clarity, focus, and direction.
  • Strategy formation - having a clear, shared direction is essential — not only to know where you're going, but also how you'll get there. I support organisations through the often complex process of developing strategies that are both ambitious and achievable. Bringing an external, objective perspective — and a dose of (friendly) challenge when needed — I help teams align around a common vision and chart a course that’s realistic, focused, and owned by everyone involved.
  • Partnership, merger and closure support - much can be gained from collaboration, and independent help to broker this is often vital for success. When this progresses to merging with another, experienced guidance and management through an often emotionally loaded process is invaluable. Like people, charities have a life cycle and ending well honours the legacy and best outcomes for current beneficiaries.
  • Organisational Review - whether to meet funder requirements or to establish a baseline for improvement, an independent, objective review acts like an MOT for your organisation — helping to ensure you're fit for the future. Feedback is delivered using a simple traffic-light scoring system, alongside a clear action plan that highlights strengths, identifies limiting issues, and sets out prioritised steps to tackle key challenges.
  • Demonstrating Impact - charities are increasingly looking to go beyond describing their outputs — they want to clearly evidence their impact. I carry out independent reviews that assess and articulate the difference your work makes; presented in a clear, engaging printed format, designed to support communication with funders, partners, and other key stakeholders.

“We engaged Pete to help us with a potential merger.  He worked with us and the other organisation, bringing his expertise, diligence, diplomacy and meticulous attention to detail to many thorny issues.  When the merger could not proceed, he supported us to close the charity, managed our small staff team through this difficult time and ensured the closure was carried out in an orderly manner.  With immense wisdom and care, he encouraged us to celebrate what we had achieved.  His timely prompts and reassuring calm attitude were of enormous value - we can't thank him enough.”
